The original Madonna was created in 1300 by Duccio Di Buoninsegna, one of the most influential artists of his time. It wasn't until the 15th century Italian Renissance that this style of painting grew to popularity. The Madonna, meaning "my lady" in Italian, symbolizes everlasting life, purity, youth, and love. In his lifetime, Leonardo Da Vinci painted 24 Madonna's, Raphael painted 34, and Michelangelo painted 5. One of which was unfinished.
